Community Outreach & Missions
First Presbyterian Plano is extremely committed to community outreach and involvement. As a congregation, we are especially dedicated to serving those who are most at need and are often forgotten.
We offer many ways for you to connect with and serve others!
Clothes Closet: Managed by church member Mary Ann Miller, is a volunteer project that has helped low income PISD families, screened by the Assistance Center of Collin County for residency and need, and also women from the Plano Women's Shelter, for almost 50 years. First visit is free; after that, clothes items are 10 cents each. The total number of clothes items distributed last year was 9,728. This total counts only Monday, February 6, 2017 for clothes and does not include toys, household items, belts, purses, and personal items. This project has donated $1,000 or more each year to the church. Wednesday volunteer help and wearable clothes always needed, preferably brought on Monday nights after 6:30, or Wednesdays after 10 a.m. If at other times, call the church office prior to delivery of donations.

East Texas Youth Mission Trip: First Presbyterian Plano youth have participated in this mission outreach event for several years. We join other area churches in East Texas to form a work group of roughly 50 youth and adult sponsors to help others in many different ways. From putting on a vacation bible school, to working in local assistant centers, to working alongside those in need who are trying to help themselves. We’ve been to locations like Joplin, Mo., Austin, TX, Clearwater, MN., Louisville, KY., Ankeny, IA., and San Antonio, TX. We are always open for those who like to help others join us on these summer trips!
Backpack Ministry: This is a ministry the First Plano Youth spearhead with the help of ALL church members. The youth put together back packs filled with roughly $20 worth of personal hygiene, food and other necessary items to help those that may need assistance whose paths we cross on a daily basis. By carrying a backpack in our cars we can distribute a back pack immediately when an opportunity occurs. Along with the backpack we may offer a possible blessing and let the recipient know someone cares. Anyone can donate money to this ministry as well as purchase, for $20.00, a backpack to distribute as they see fit. Collect food for the Plano Food Pantry: Church members have an ongoing ministry to collect food and funds to help resupply the Plano Food Pantry run by another neighborhood church which, in turn, help members of our immediate community.
The month prior to the Super Bowl the First Presbyterian Youth headed up a can good collection drive, in support of the national Souper Bowl of Caring Program, to help resupply the Plano Food Pantry. In January 2017, with the support of very generous church members and friends, the youth collected 1,510 cans to give to the pantry!
Valentines Boxes for church members who are serving in the military or are away at college
The Annual Cookie Caper sales raises funds benefitting CITY House (Collin Intervention to Youth) located in downtown Plano. CITY House “serves youth ages newborn to 21-years old.” Their programs include: [1] Emergency Shelter, ages newborn to 18 years [2] Youth and Family Services [3] Transitional Living Program [4] Rapid Rehousing Program. FPC sponsors families through the Christmas Adopt a Family Program from the Assistance Center of Collin County. This program at Christmas has been matching families in need with individuals or group sponsors to provide gifts for their children and one month’s worth of food at Christmas for over 20 years.
